From Highway Transport to Final Unload
Getting this tank down the highway was only half the job. The final step was unloading a 633-inch vessel at an active project site, where the truck, trailer, crane crews, and rigging plan all had to come together within a limited work area.
The 29.4% aqueous ammonia storage tank measured 182 inches wide and 148 inches high when saddled. Buchanan Logistics coordinated the specialized transportation and the delivery details leading into the unload. By the time the load arrived, the site team needed room for the tractor and trailer, a clear path for the cranes, and a set position that would allow the riggers to take control of the tank.
This video picks up where the highway footage leaves off. It shows the tank staged beneath the lifting equipment, the spreader beam and rigging overhead, and the crews working through the transfer. The truck is positioned in a busy construction setting with other equipment and structures nearby, making the delivery sequence just as important as the miles traveled.
With a vessel this large, unloading cannot be treated as a task added at the end of the trip. Trailer position, crane reach, lifting points, ground conditions, and the order of operations all affect how the handoff is carried out. The footage also shows how many groups can be involved in one specialized shipment. The shipper, carrier, site personnel, crane operators, and rigging crew each have a specific role.
Buchanan Logistics helps keep the transportation side connected to the larger project schedule so the load arrives ready for the next stage, rather than simply showing up at the gate. Watch the video for a closer look at the final unload and the coordination behind it.
For manufacturers and project teams moving oversized tanks, vessels, or other difficult freight, early planning can prevent last-minute surprises at both ends of the route. Contact Richard H. at Buchanan Logistics to discuss the details of your next shipment.
